The last four liability reviews the Gelker and Rohrer Insurance Agency has done for new clients has revealed a common thread; Unnecessary exposure to liability lawsuits. A client who lives in Lake Forest, California, owns a house, three vehicles and a great business had $100,000 per incident uninsured motorist liability coverage. And that exposure is with two under age drivers. A couple from Newport Beach, who own multiple properties, have a teenage driver, had the same $100,000 per incident uninsured motorist liability coverage and no umbrella liability. They were surprised to see how exposed they were to a significant liability lawsuit with the coverage they have had for years.Take the time to have

Many clients of the Gelker and Rohrer Insurance Agency are discovering that the umbrella liability insurance they carry has some "gaps" they were not aware of. A client, who lives in Newport Beach, California discovered during a review we did for them that the under insured/uninsured bodily injury coverage on their current was excluded from their umbrella coverage. A serious accident involving an uninsured or underinsured driver could expose them to a significant medical liability claim. We were able to write an umbrella liability policy that closed the "gap" in coverage with one of our auto insurance carriers.

There's a lot of debate and knashing of teeth in our nations's capitol about the high cost of health insurance. The principal at the Gelker and Rohrer Insurance Agency, Bob Lunde has been recommending health plans to individuals and small business owners for the past 25 years. During that time he has seen premiums for health plans triple. What is the cause and what can we do about it? There are many contributing factors to the rise in the cost of health insurance that we consumers have no control of: 1. The cost of quality health care is rising. New technology, drugs, therapies and trained medical practitioners is making quality care more costly 2. The aging population is Medicare is growing. Private health plans subsidize Medicare. 3. Government mandates drive the cost of health plans up. Many plans are forced to provide benefits that a lot of consumers do not want or need. As consumers we do have the ab ...

Most people are not aware of the long term premium savings Health Savings Account (HSA) health plans can provide. Compared to low deductible, low doctor co-pay health plans HSA health plans cost considerable less premium annually and allow insureds to open up a seperate tax sheltered account to pay for expenses below the deductible. Most insured are able to fund the entire amount of the higher deductible with the savings realized from the lower premiums of the new HSA health plan. All unused funds left in the Health Savings Account roll over at the end of the year and can accumulate interest tax free in the account. When it comes time to pay for a claim the payment is not taxable. HSA's are one of the few plans that premiums are tax deductible and claims payments tax free. Quite a tax advantage fo ...

Many of our clients are already in the process of reforming the health care they provide employees in Orange, County California. Using a high deductible PPO health plan for employee health care coupled with a partially self-insured reimbursement account (HRA) allows companies to take advantage of the fact that most employees access medical care very few times a year. (60% of employees on group health plans see the doctor one or two times a year.) A high deductible PPO plan is less expensive than richer benefit HMO and PPO plans, and the HRA (Health Reimbursement Account) set up and funded with company pre-tax dollars pays for employee medical expenses below the deductible. The employer only pays when an employee has a medical claim and our clients with HRA's have saved 30% in premiu ...
