1/23/2012 12:00:00 AM
January 1 2012, saw the implementation of a law requiring Californian businesses to provide employees with specific wage information. This notice forms part of the Wage Theft Protection Act and has been put in place to protect workers. There are penalties for businesses which do not comply. Running a business has many requirements and like your California business insurance this is another aspect that cannot be ignored.

The law requires that each employee should be given written advisement of:
Rates of pay, including overtime and calculations
Date of payment of wages
Inclusions of allowances if applicable
Business name and trading name used
Address of business
Business contact number
Workers’ compensation carrier name, contact details and address

The form applicable is available to download from the California Chamber of Commerce. Changes made to an employee’s salary will require a new form to be completed and signed. There are exceptions and as a business owner you should investigate the specific details that may apply to your business.

Completion of this declaration is designed to provide employees with clarity about their remuneration. You may even notice an increase in productivity and employee morale as a result. In the current economy, most businesses welcome any improvement or saving, from a boost in productivity, to a better price on their California business insurance.
